Our Past

Gehrett Plumbing Company, was founded by Homer Gehrett in 1957, as a residential plumbing company in Elmhurst, Illinois.

In 1971 Ray Black joined Homer as a partner and their headquarters moved to Winfield, Illinois where they began to do commercial, industrial and institutional plumbing work. Gehrett Plumbing was officially incorporated in 1972.

In 1977 Homer sold the business to Ray, and Frank Kennedy joined the organization shortly thereafter, bringing with him much expertise in commercial and industrial plumbing.

Frank initially began his career as a journeyman plumber with the Thomas H. Litvin Company in Chicago. Working his way up to foreman and eventually superintendent, Frank supervised several major projects in the downtown Chicago area, including the Hancock Center, Water Tower Place and the C.N.A. building.

Upon his arrival at Gehrett Plumbing, Inc., Frank continued to direct many major projects for Gehrett Plumbing, Inc., including jobs at Argonne National Laboratory, Amoco Oil Company and Central DuPage Hospital.

In 1980, Frank’s sons, Brian and Tom joined the company.

In 1992, Mike Kennedy, joined the rest of the family and added a carpentry division to Gehrett Plumbing, which provides carpentry and general contracting for commercial and industrial buildings in the area.

In 1988 Frank became sole owner of Gehrett Plumbing and brought the company to the Chicago-Midway Airport area where it remains today.

Our Present

Gehrett Plumbing, Inc., continues to provide professional plumbing services in and around the Chicagoland area. We employ 15 union plumbers, many of whom have been with us for over 10 years.

We are a medium sized plumbing contractor and do some sewer and water in house, depending upon the scope.

Our annual average dollar volume is between $4,500,000 to $5,000,000.
